Engaging stories         Enchanting characters        Endearing romance

2007 RWA National Conference

RWA's National conference in Atlanta was particularly fun this year. I don’t know precisely what it was, but the energy was just so positive and it was great to catch up with friends I only get to see once a year.

Romantic Times Convention - 2006

The Romantic Times convention was busy, hectic and so full of life it was almost like living in a parade for a week. Here are a few pictures from the booksigning.

That's just me showing off my lovely books. Doesn't Avon do an amazing job with my covers?

Here I am with Kathryn Caskie. She'll have her first Avon release out the same month as Deliciously Wicked – be on the lookout for them in October!

Kingsport Times-News Women’s Expo

In October, I attended the Kingsport Times-News Women’s Expo in Kingsport, TN. It was the first time the SMRW chapter had authors attend to sign books and it was a huge success, but not without hitches for myself. My husband and I left early that Friday to drive the three hours from our house to the hotel and we arrived about 4:30 that afternoon. Once settled in our room, I received a call from the signing organizer letting me know that there had been a mix-up and my books had not arrived. So I called my editor in a panic to see if they could overnight me some, but I had just missed the warehouse closing. So my husband and I hopped back in the car and drove the three hours back to our house to retrieve my author’s copies, then once again to drive back to the hotel. The last leg of the trip we ended up driving through a cold front that spawned a tornado – luckily we just had to brave torrential rains and eventually made it safely back to the hotel. Phew! Needless to say the event was lots of fun. I met several wonderful authors and readers, sold books to new readers and completely ran out of bookmarks!

My first booksignings

I had three booksignings in Texas before we moved to Tennessee. It was a great way to celebrate with my friends and family and get to see everyone one last time. My first was in my hometown, San Marcos, TX at the Hastings. Many of my former co-workers from Texas State University-San Marcos came to support me as well as other friends in town. Everyone was so excited for me and eager to get home to read the book. Since then I’ve gotten great feedback from these friends, most of whom are not romance readers!

My second signing was at the B. Dalton in Austin, Tx. We were actually in a mall and in the midst of the tax-free weekend that Texas offers right before the school year starts so the mall was crazy-busy. We had a great time and the bookseller was gracious enough to bring us homemade cookies. Here, I signed USA Today Bestselling author, Julie Kenner.

(Right) Behind me on the right is my wonderful mother, next to her is USA Today Bestselling author, Julie Ortolon and over to the left is RITA Nominated author (and my partner-in-crime) Emily McKay along with her husband, Greg. Julie Kenner is actually introducing her daughter to Emily and Greg’s new baby girl. It was a wonderful day and afterwards we went for lunch to visit and have a tearful goodbye.

My final signing was at one of the Barnes and Noble in San Antonio. The bookseller who set up this great booksigning for me made me Author of the Month for August, so there was a special display of my books in all the Barnes and Nobles in San Antonio. I felt like star.

(Right) This is my wonderful friend and mentor, Pamela Morsi. She’s such a lovely lady and an amazing writer.
